Organize Baby Essentials with a Diaper Cart

One of my favorite items in my daughter’s nursery is the diaper cart. It is a functional and cute way to store some baby essentials, so they are always in reach. Mom brain is real, and having everything in one place means I don’t have to look all over trying to remember where I put the little things that my baby needs. It is especially helpful when I’m changing a diaper in the middle of the night or just dealing with a squirmy baby. It is also portable so you can place it wherever you like and move it easily when you need to.

Setting up a diaper cart is simple, and the best part is that the cart itself can be used in other ways long after the shelves are no longer being filled with baby products. This time around I paid much more attention to baby gear items that convert into things that can be used once Ava is a toddler or older. Babyhood does go by so fast it’s nice to have items that are multipurpose.

Okay, on to our cart

A diaper cart is not a special baby gear specific cart; you can just purchase any utility cart you like and fill it with diapers and things. The shelves full of diapers are what make it a “diaper cart.” I purchased our specific cart from Michael’s. It is the Lexington 3 Tier Rolling Cart in the color mint. It is available in a few different colors; I have a rose gold one in my closet. Another great option is the Ikea Raskog Utility Cart or the Room Essentials Storage Cart from Target. You also could easily paint a cart any color to customize it.

Our diaper cart is full of all of the following baby necessities:

  • Diapers and Wipes: We use and love Honest Company diapers and wipes. I am a huge fan of the bundle subscription service (read my review here). Plus it’s fun to display the cute prints on them. We currently have our top shelf full of the 2017 Fall prints and a few night time diapers as well. Click here to get $20 off your first bundle order!

  • Burp cloths and Bibs: I keep them rolled up in a little mint metal basket I found at the Dollar Spot at Target. Gerber cloth diapers are my favorite things to use as burp cloths. I do still use them to clean up small messes or to keep milk from getting everywhere when Ava is doing gymnastics while she nurses. I also have a few bibs from Carters, Aden and Anais and Neat Solutions.
  •

  • Disposable Changing Pads: I love the pads made by Munchkin. I don’t usually use these at home but I like to keep them on the cart, so if I need to restock the diaper bag stash they are easy to get to.
  •

  • Wet Ones Antibacterial Wipes: These are my favorite alternatives to hand sanitizer if I need something in a hurry.
  •

  • Nursing Pads: I used to be picky about the disposable nursing pads I used, but almost a year into wearing them and tossing them so often I’ve gotten to where I now grab a pack of generic ones. I keep them stacked in a little container I found at Dollar Tree.

  • Baby Lotion: We just have a few bottles of Johnson and Johnson lotion in the cart. Their Vanilla Oatmeal is my favorite scent and has been since back when my son was a baby.
  •

  • Diaper Rash Cream and Baby Bum Brush: Luckily we haven’t had any crazy cases of diaper rashes this year with Ava. I have a couple of tubes of diaper cream just in case though. The Baby Bum Brush, however, is one of the greatest things ever. When I do have to apply diaper cream, this helps to keep my nails and cuticles from ending up covered in stubborn cream. Just swipe the cream on your baby and wipe the bum brush off after.
  •

  • Nail Clippers, Comb and Nasal Aspirator: We just use items that came in a Safety First baby items kit.
  •

  • Boogie Mist: This little can of saline spray is pretty nifty, it sprays out of an aerosol top. I just use a bulb aspirator to get the gunk out after.
  •

    And there you have it.

My take on a cute and functional diaper cart and all of its contents. I try to keep it only stocked with things that I use during a diaper change or after a bath. However, it also would work well for things like blankets, clothes, books or toys (to name a few). Make it your own!

That’s an excellent idea! I’m a newborn photographer and I use that exact same cart to organize things for my baby sessions. 🙂

Love all the colors in your photos – you make a functional project into something beautiful. Plus, I couldn’t keep my eyes off your gorgeous little one. I can see you making her all kinds of goodies as the years go by – such a lucky girl!

This is a really great idea. I wish I was more organized when my kids were babies. I was more of a “run around like a chicken with it’s head cut off looking for wipes” kind of mom when it was diaper changing time!

This is such a great gadget!! Unfortunately, my 21 month old would try to climb it and just end up pulling everything out. Wahhh. Would love to have something like this for our newborn, though! Thanks for sharing!
